Cambodia and China Strengthen Green Partnership with Focus on Renewable Energy and Sustainable Investment

Cambodia and China have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding environmental cooperation and accelerating green investment initiatives following an official visit by Cambodia’s Minister of Environment to China on April 28–29.

During high-level meetings held in Shanghai, both sides discussed deeper collaboration in renewable energy, low-carbon development, sustainable resource management, and climate change mitigation. The visit underscored the growing alignment between environmental priorities and economic development strategies in both countries.

As part of the visit, the Cambodian delegation toured a textile manufacturing facility where discussions focused on potential investment opportunities in Cambodia. Company representatives expressed interest in expanding operations while complying with environmental regulations and international sustainability standards.

A key proposal presented during the meetings involves the cultivation of Giant King Grass for conversion into biomass energy. The alternative fuel source could be used in garment manufacturing and industrial production, providing a cleaner substitute to traditional fuels commonly used in factories.

Officials noted that wider adoption of biomass energy could help reduce dependence on firewood and charcoal, which continue to contribute to deforestation and environmental degradation. Key areas of cooperation discussed included renewable energy integration in manufacturing, pollution reduction, carbon emission management, and the expansion of environmentally responsible investment projects.

China also reaffirmed its support for Cambodia’s rural development and clean energy initiatives. Planned assistance includes the installation of solar-powered streetlights and household solar systems in rural and protected communities, aimed at improving energy access and supporting sustainable development at the local level.

The discussions reflect broader regional efforts to strengthen climate resilience, promote green economic growth, and encourage sustainable industrial practices across Southeast Asia.
