Phnom Penh is being directly connected to one of the region’s most powerful economic hubs. Travel time will be reduced from 4.5–6 hours to approximately 3–3.5 hours. And it’s important to understand the scale.
Vietnam is already:
At the same time, air traffic is also being strengthened : direct flights from Phnom Penh to:
- Ho Chi Minh City
- Nha Trang
- Da Nang
- Phu Quoc
This means that Phnom Penh is being directly integrated into the economic system of southern Vietnam. Such changes always have concrete consequences—accelerating the flow of capital, business, and investment between countries.

Let’s take a look at which areas of Phnom Penh will be affected by the new expressway to Vietnam.
Any highway of this magnitude, costing over $1.3 billion, always creates a new axis of urban growth. In Phnom Penh, this is already clearly evident in three areas.
Hun Sen Blvd – Chak Angre – Chbar Ampov
This is the main exit from the capital onto National Road 1 and further onto the Phnom Penh-Bavet expressway. This corridor will be the entire land flow between Cambodia and Vietnam, where trade volume already exceeds $10 billion per year.
BKK1 – Tonle Bassac
It is the city’s financial center, with the highest concentration of business, capital, and prime real estate. Ho Chi Minh City is a metropolis with a population of over 9 million and the region’s largest economic hub. Strengthening connections between the cities directly increases business activity in the central districts of Phnom Penh.
Koh Norea
With the opening of the new bridge, the district gained a direct connection to the city center. This is one of the largest new development areas near the city center, located on a strategic axis toward Vietnam. These districts are becoming an extension of the city center in the next growth cycle.
